Hi, my name is Maartje and I am the person behind Handmade Hygge deco.

Originally, I am from the Netherlands, but I have lived in multiple countries. First the USA, then Belgium, and now I have lived here in Denmark for the last 2 years. I love it here, and the hygge lifestyle has become a part of who I am. Hygge is what makes you feel good, and that's what I try to accomplish with all of my creations: for them to be something that makes you feel good, feel hygge, and add to your happiness. Fun side note, did you know the Dutch have a similar concept ('gezellig')?

I have always been creative and did many creative things growing up. To this day, I still love to sew, paint, knit, and make macrame. But jewelry making is my biggest love of all. As a kid I made many beaded bracelets, but when I found polymer clay I simply couldn't stop making, and my 'addiction' was born.

Most of my inspiration comes from nature. I love to make faux stone, or marbled pieces and much of my color scheme inspiration also comes from nature. I get inspired by the beautiful forest areas of Denmark, as well as the beautiful sunrises and sea colors I get to enjoy every day in Aarhus. Other inspiration I get from architecture and hygge memories that I cherish.
